Burned Pier Solar CD issues

Postby Wesker1337 on Mon Mar 21, 2011 5:53 pm

I got the reprint today, and I put the CD I burned a week ago into my Sega CD. It recognizes the CD is in, but it makes this irritating clicking sound every few seconds. :|
I've googled this problem, and so far, I've gotten two different answers...your basic q tip and alchohol, and using the latest version of Nero.
I used Imgburn to burn the CD, if that matters.

Thanks for any insight! :)

Wesker -> If the game recognize the disc, and then make clicking noises, it means the megacd is too weak to read the data at good speed.

It can come from very damaged laser, bad CDR media or bad CDR burner.
Try a different cdr brand, and try different burning speed.

Duo_r -> It could mean your megacd is too weak to read CDR or disc badly burned. I would recommend to try with Nero (file>burn image).

There are also 2 versions of the CD floating around one that is padded and one that is not.

I have burned both just in case, but I would recommend trying both versions as the clicking could be from using the non-padded version and the laser skipping around.

ok my unit was not recognizing the disc. I cleaned the cartridge port, and the genesis expansion port. The cartridge port was pretty dirty. The game now recognizes the CD and the music doesn't skip (CDR). Are there other levels where that becomes an issue because it is working now.

So I should burn higher (8x), or lower (1x)?

Also, would blasting it with a can of compressed air help?

I got it.
To all those wondering out there:
I initially burned it at 4x with TDK.
I popped up my actual Sega CD game (yes, I only have one, shame), no noises
Then I popped in Sonic CD (Burned, HP format), no noises
therefore I concluded that it must be the disc media
So I had another HP format CD, burned it (at 4x), and no noises :D
Plus I didn't even have to press detect disc, it auto detected it as soon as I turned the game on.

There is no need to pad the CD with empty data. That won't help. Just be sure to let the burner "finish" when it is done (ie: write the lead out) and you'll be fine.
