MD2 incompatibility (incompatible with MegaCD, 32x, VR too)

Postby DarkSynbios on Tue Dec 28, 2010 6:08 pm

Hi!

I have 3 consoles mega drive (2 pal MD1 and MD2 and One JP) ,so today i try first the game PS to Mega drive 1 and working fine and after i try to play it on Mega Drive 2 and not start. So i think maybe need to clean the contacts inside of MD2 and so i clean it and after put again the game on MD2 and not work again,so try other games but all play normally. This MD2 version i have in box say is not compatibility with 32X and Mega CD! So maybe Sega change the hardware inside and put cheap circuits to make more simple and cheap for selling and maybe is the reason not play the PS.

My model is : MK-1631-50

Notice: This mega drive 2 edition i have is coming with red box and 6 games gatridge inside .

Sorry for my poor english..

Yeah, give the system a good clean first.

I doubt it's related but I thought I'd share my own incompatibility story. I had a Genesis 2 once that simply would not play knuckles chaotix with 32x. I cleaned everything from top to bottom and nothing worked. Naturally I assumed it was a bad game so I kept buying more of them with the same result. Eventually I started believing that the rumors of Chaotix ever working were greatly exaggerated.

Many years later, I swapped in another genesis 2 I had laying around and all my Chaotix copies worked just fine. Don't know what the deal was on that. Maybe it was an oddball system revision. And of course after all that I was a little unhappy that the game was total crap anyway.

I've never heard of this one happening to anybody else though--it seemed to play all the other games fine.

I tested the game extensively on all models of hardware made by Sega, including model 2. One model 2 could not play the game (would often hang) and I had to replace the console by another one who plays it flawlessly.

Pier Solar makes use of some cart pins that other games doesn't use, if your console has those pins defective it's very possible that you can have issues with Pier Solar (and games like Super Street Fighter II'), but not with other simpler games like Sonic.

Model 2 is known for its infamous slot so I suggest you take a good look on it.

Yes; There is a model of MD2, which is incompatible with SVP and a few other games due to a missing soldering on the cartridge slot (factory defect). It must be yours.

And PierSolar will not work on it due to its awesomeness !

This defect can also be found on some Majesco MD2.

See ya

Phew... I didn't know about this. Just tested VR and SSF2 on my new SMD2 that I recently picked up... both work fine, thank God!

Yeah but you need to run a cable from the headphone port if you want stereo. EW, I HATE CABLES! lol.

Or better yet, the Wondermega or X'Eye. Red/White stereo outputs right out of the back, from the factory. 8)

I actually bought a MINT in box X'Eye years ago... it was never sent. I really should have chased it up a little more than I did but not much I could do from the other side of the planet.
